The theme of the lesson: “The Kingdom of three languages”

The aims: 1. To enrich student’s knowledge of the foreign language, to show the importance of  being well-educated.

  1. To develop pupil’s intellect, speech habits through speaking, listening and writing in three languages.
  2. To bring up the culture of the communication and the need in practical use of languages.

 

The visual aids: maps, posters, cards, pictures.

The form: competition

The procedure of the game:

  1. Opening the game

Teacher: Good  afternoon dear students, teachers and guests! Welcome to our competition. We are glad to see you and we hope you will enjoy today’s game. Language is the main means communication. There are nearly 3000languages in the world . English and Russian are the languages of international communication, they are the languages of  Pushkin and Lermontov, Shakespeare, Byron and Burns, whom we love and respect for

Their poems, sonnets and novels. And Kazakh is the state language of our country.

And now let’s meet our participants. There are two teams. The players are the pupils of 10th form.

Let me introduce you with the judges of our competition. And here is brief information about the game. It consists of 6 tours. They are:

  1. Greeting
  2. Go on
  3. Match English, Kazakh and Russian proverbs
  4. Make up sentences
  5. The best interpreter
  6. Find out a word

Taking part in this competition the players learn to be active and polite, to think quickly, to speak fluently and to respect their opponents. So, good luck to you, dear players!

  1. Greeting: The participants tell some words about themselves, about hobbies,

favourite subjects etc.

  1. “Go on” . The task is to answer the questions at high speed. If you don’t know answers you should say “go on”.

Questions for the first team:

  1. When does Kazakhstan celebrate the Independence Day? (on the 16th of December)
  2. What chambers does the British Parliament consist of ? (the House of Commons and the house of Lords)
  3. Do you great people of  Kazakhstan?
  4. What has many eyes, but cries? (potato)
  5. What is the official name of the UK? ( The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

Questions for the second team:

  1. What universities are the oldest and most prestigious in Great Britain? (Oxford, Cambridge)
  2. What are the two chambers of the Parliament of Kazakhstan? (the Senate, the Majilis)
  3. Which month has 28days in it? (all months do)
  4. How many regions in Kazakhstan? (14)
  5. Do you know great people of Great Britain?

III. “Match English, Kazakh and Russian proverbs”

  1. Everything is good in it’s season
  2. Business before pleasure
  3. Where a will, there is a way
  4. East or west, home is best
  5. All that glitters is not gold

  1. While there is life, there is a hope

  4. Knowledge is power
  5. A friend in need, is a friend indeed
  6. Make up sentences. (The task is to make sentences with the given words)
