Lesson plan

Group: Elementary

Aim: in this lesson students are studying new vocabulary (everyday objects) and how to use it in speech. By the end of the lesson, students will know 14 new words and will be able to use them.

  • Warm-up – word race – students are divided in 3 teams, each team has one marker, they have to wait for a picture on the board (words from previous lesson) and if a player remembers the word, he must run and write in on the board.
  • Riddles – students get information about things from previous lessons and have to guess the word. (Checking how student learnt vocabulary at home)
  • Everyday objects

Lead-in – Do you have telephones? Do you use them every day? What else do you use every day?

  • Match the words with the pictures – Students get pictures of everyday things and have to fine the names of these things (14 words: comb, gum, glasses, passport, money, keys, headphones, memory stick, cellphone, smartphone, laptop, purse, wallet, bag)

Checking together – listen and repeat, drill the right pronunciation.

  • Fill the gaps – kids get a text about a girl and what things she usually takes with her. But this text has gaps – so students have to fill these gaps with the new words (8 gaps)
  • Speaking – kids have to interview each other

Example:

-what things do you take/use every day?

-Hm, I usually take my smartphone, because…

  • Listening – kids listen to the audio about Jane, talking what she needs every day and answer following questions:

1) What’s her name?
2) How old is she?
3) Does she work or study?

4) What time does she go to work/study?
5) What does she take?
6) Why does she need old cell phone?
7) Does she take a memory stick? Why?
8) What does she have in her lunchbox?
9) What time does she get home?

  • Homework – students have to interview one person (mother, father or friend) and write a little text about things they usually take with them.
