W) Teacher asks the learners to watch the video and sing ABC song Today we are going to talk about transport, you will have to respond to the question using present simple and we’ll play games. | Video ABC |
Middle 25 minutes 5 minutes | MAIN: Activating vocabulary. TPR method (D, W) Teacher asks the learners to listen to him attentively then repeat after him the words with pictures on the board. (bus, school bus, car, bike, tram, train) (D) Teacher shows the types of transport on the slide presentation. (car, bus, ) Then teacher asks prompt questions. E.g “How do you get to school?” I get to school by ….. (car, bus etc.) Learners answer the questions and try to guess the theme of the lesson. (P) Matching. Teacher gives out worksheets on the topic “Transport”. Learners work in pairs to match the pictures to words. Descriptor: a) pronounces types of transports correctly b) matches the words to the pictures. Assessment: Oral assessment. (D, W) Modelling using interrogative pronouns. Teacher points to the slides and asks questions and learners answer. e.g What is this?This is a bus.What is this?This is a car. This isn’t a car. This is a train.Where is the car?The car is in the parkingWhere is the boy?The boy is on the bike.Which transport is the best?The train is the best transport. Then the learners answer these questions. (G) Fan and Pick Teacher divides class 3 groups of 4. Each group will be given cards with scene and questions. 1st learner holds cards like Fan. 2nd learner picks the card and reads a question. 3rd learner answers the question. 4th learner checks and fills assessment card. Descriptor: a) reads the question b) answers the questions using the proper interrogative pronouns c) checks the answer (W) Sound game Learners listen to the sounds of transports and guess them. Learners tick the pictures in the sheets and write the numbers near them. Ex: Number 1 is (Tram) Number 2 is (BUS) Number 3 is (Car) Descriptor: a) listens to the sounds correctly b) guesses sounds of transport c) Ticks the pictures in the worksheet and write the number. Assessment: “Smiles” (W) Speaking activity (Present Simple) Teacher writes the question on the board and models a couple of examples asking the question and pointing at pictures of transport for answer and gives scaffolding sentences. E.g: “How do you get to school?” I get to school …… Descriptor: a) answers the question (according to the pictures) using scaffolding sentences. Assessment: “Big thumb” (P) Craftwork Learners colour the templates (of transport given by teacher) and describe to the partners. E.g. This is Ali. He gets to school by bus. This is Anya. She gets to school by car. Descriptor: a) colours the transport b) compares with partners’ (P) Learners make up dialogues using types of transport and role play them. E.g. A: Hi! B: Hello! A: What is your name? B: My name is Ali. What is your name? A: My name is Anya. B: How do you get to school? A: I get to school by bus. And you? B: I get to school by tram. A: Good-bye! B: Bye! Descriptor Makes up dialogues using transportsRole play the dialogue Assessment: Microphone “Eavesdropping” (G) Two learners go to other groups and listen to them. Then they compare information. One group’ learners get to school by bus. Others get to school by car. Students should compare answers. Descriptor: a) compares learners’ answers. End 5 minutes | Homework – Create project “How do I get to school”. Good-bye song Learners sing a good-bye song and dance repeating the movements shown in the video Self-assessment. Teacher asks learners : What kind of transport do you know? How do you get to school? “What was the interesting for you at the lesson? Smiling feedback: Teacher gives every learner 3 smiles then asks them: Was our lesson interesting for you? The learners should choose the smiles and show it the teacher.
